Heading South For Australia Day

Just like a couple of hundred years ago, Some people headed south for Australia Day*.Ben and Catherine came all the way from Queensland to get married in the place where they got engaged! This visit they bought another 40 family and friends to make it all official at the Henry Jones Art Hotel.

Cathrine surprised everyone by wearing a very glamorous bright red dress, Ben’s smile went through the roof when he saw her for the first time!

After the ceremony we took a little walk and ended up in the Drunken Admiral for some photos! Followed by the waterfront and then some fantastic shots in the Art Hotel itself.

The reception was also held at the hotel with Cat’s sisters doing the decorating!

Congratulations again Cat and Ben, and thanks for letting me come along and shoot the big afternoon!

*It dosn’t really make sense but i like it! And yes the First Fleet would have been heading north to Sydney Cove from Botany Bay)

2007 + 250 POW

I took a few photos in 2007, in fact, I took a few thousand.I always have loved showing off my work and am very proud of the way my images have developed in the last 12 months. So it’s time to show you all my favourite shots in an audio visual presentation. This is only on for one afternoon only, and not an exhibition that is hanging on the walls, so this is your only chance to see it.

Some of the highlights will include documentary work on the East Coast bushfires and backstage at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, Holga images, urban and natural landscapes plus heaps of kids, families, pregnant bellies, animals and shoes.

In addition there will be a presentation of some of my favourite portraits of the week taken over the last 5 years. The POW started as a way of practicing and pushing myself by taking a different portrait each week. Some of these portraits are commissioned; others are self commissioned and feature comedians, musicians, brides, animals, fictional characters, photographers and everyday people I have bumped into.

The presentations will take about 30 minutes.

Ball, Birds, and the Butlers

The Butler family won a gift voucher at the RSPCA auction a few months ago and had some very casual and fun shots down near the woolsheds.

Cameron was obsesed with his ball, which was fittingly a RSPCA ball, as well as pointing at birds!

Kerry and Ric told me they love the photos people normally delete; which made the editing process really hard. We had a great time and managed to get a great range of expressions from Cameron to show off to the family back in the UK.

In the paper…. as supplied…

So, as predicted, a shot i supplied of Chris and Cal’s wedding was used in the paper, the Melbourne Herald Sun. And as usual, no Credit… so I’m putting my own credit here so you can go read the story which is quite nice, just notice that the photo is a genuine Photobat!

Chris and Cal

V and I had the great pleasure of being in Melbourne last weekend for the very fun and colourful wedding of Cal Wilson of Nova FM fame and Chris. I had met and shot Cal a few times in the past and was really excited to get an email from her asking me to take the photos of their big day. Chris is also a fantastic guy and we all had lots a really fantastic time taking the shots.

So here is a little preview of some of the many many good shots.

Good Start

Nothing like a mysterious broken window in the office to get monday off to a good starts. I think the wind over the weekend must have done the damage, the window was open and must have committed suicide.  So i’m moving the main working desk to the nice window repair man can fix it.

Borders

I’m currently sitting in Melbourne Central Borders… bit tired, another big day yesterday with a full day of great wedding… more uploaded tomorrow.. and there are some great ones. Plus i might add some more of my cafe shots, we have had 3 great breakfasts the last three mornings.

Ok, yes, i’m a little bored…. i’ll stop this random posting and go look at books now.

Win Richard!

The nice people at Go Faster Stripe have sent me some copies of Richard Herrings live comedy show “menage a un”. Which has a photo I took of Richard on the front cover.

SO if you want to win one of the 3 copies I have, sign up for the Straight from the Photobat e-newsletter. The next edition is out next week and you may just win a copy if you sign up, plus there will be more ways to win in the newsletter if you are already signed up.

Great Teeth!

I had the pleasure of photographing the Claase Family when they were all home for Christmas. It was a reall gathering of the clan with family coming all the way from Scotland for the family Christmas.

Ans everyone has great teeth, probably because Richard is my dentist and a bit of a photo buff himself.  They are such a welcoming family and I had a really good time taking the photos, including a few candid shots in between all the individual family shots.

And as usual, got the dogs involved!

It’s always good to get a large family photo together, but I really love getting those in between shots at the same time, the ones that show the family enjoying and being themselves.
