Some new Holga

I had some new Holga shots processed, I’m still enjoying playing with the little plastic camera. I picked up some tungsten balanced slide film and got it cross processed, give these strange colouring… no photoshop!

Using this toy camera has made me really have to think about many different aspects of the art of photogaphy, thinking about different light, compositions, using shadows, understanding how a film is going to work in certain light conditions and most importantly, how dam expensive it gets to buy and process film, let alone get it scanned.

For those photo types out there, these are shot with expired Fuji 64T slide film, cross processed standard C41 way. The blue cast comes from the film being balanced for tungsten light and the images shot in day light and the contrast is increased because of the cross processing.

I’ll be adding more photos into the new Holga Gallery on Photobat.net soon, but for the time being head over to my flickr site for more images.

Vikahsni has been sewing mad to create a whole army of Softies for the Odd and Even Market this Saturday at the Peacock Theater in Hobart. 10am - 4pm. Lots of other great people going to be there selling things including Cat Rabbit, Benny Walter, Suiz froim Cocoon and Me (Holga and Lomo images on cards).

Ava

I had the great pleasure of shooting little Ava’s first big photo shoot. Kylie and Travis have a beautiful little girl and an equally beautiful home and pets. The nursery was set up son nicely and included this big red chair which we dragged outside so we could get some good light on it.

And how could i not take a few shots of the furry kids. This little collection of animals were so much fun and very friendly The bunny has survived having a stroke and lives in the back yard with the dog, can you believe that!

Easter Play Time

I managed to take a couple of days off over Easter! One of those days off did involve half the day sitting in the office tinkering with potential award entry images. It washard to force ourselves to get out of bed early enough to get some nice landscapes up the Tamar. But we did it, some of mine are below and Vikashni’s will appear on her flickr sometime http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikashni/ . It was fun getting back to shooting some landscapey type stuff, including some long exposure stuff and some more experimental things. I also played with some light using my lovely Vikashni as my model, back light and flare were what I was after, and after the sun went down I managed to get some nice softer images.

This is the same area where I did my first shoot with Vikashni a couple of years ago now, that was before we were together! It’s fun to go to a place we had shot in before and come up with something completely different.

And yes, we had just watched The Virgin Suicides

The Gorge

Jelly fish near Deviot

Some poles at Gravelly Beach

Some shots from Greens Beach

Sea Port in Launceston

The Gorge Pool.

More to come…

The Baby Ball

This is Griffin! You may remember the pregnancy shoot we did with Karina and Jeremy, and the preview posted last week. We had a great time photographing this cute little boy.

Just as were were leaving Giffin gave us a fantastic last shot while over Karina’s shoulder. He just looks so content and loving!

The Penney’s in the sand

I had the best and unexpected location formy shoot with the Penney family. Initially we had arranged to meet in a park in the city, but at the last minute the location was changed to a big pile of dirt somewhere out the back of Exeter. This wasn’t just any big pile of dirt, it was the Penney’s big pile of dirt. The family is involved in supplying gravel and sand to industries about the state, so it made scense to head up there for the big family portrait.

There were so many people to shoot, kids and adults. We all got very dirty… black really worked to make everyone stand out, but after about half an hour, everything had a white tinge to it!

This give you a little bit of scale of how big the pile of sand is.

Nothing like a dozer as a prop!

And yes, he did take flight!

A preview for the Boyle’s

There was a bunny…

There was a playful puppy…

There was a mischievous kitty…

And there was a baby! More to come next week

Is this ok Karina???

Just because her partner is an alderman, Karina insisted that we give her a preview

demanding demanding :D

hope you enjoy, see you next week.

Clare and Corey

Last weekend was Corey and Clare’s turn to swap rings in front of family and friends. Yet again it was a couple coming home to get married as these guys now live in the very cool suburb of Yarraville in Melbounre. There were so many cute kids at this wedding! All the little dressed up kids were betwen 4 and 5 and looked cute in their wedding clothes.

The ceremony was held in Launceston’s city park, which is actually the first time I’ve had a ceremony there!

So naturally we took a few shots around the park, dodging the other bridal parties who were also having photos around the park, I think we ran into another three weddings on the day!

We then went for a little walk to the Grand Chancellor where the reception was being held, taking some more urban shots along the way using some of the great urban locations Launceston has to offer.

It was quite different to have everything in walking distance from the reception, sucha  relief not having to jump in and out of cars all day. It was a really was a great day. Congratulations again Clare and Corey! I can’t wait to get your proofs to you!

Water, Eel, Bed, Chess and Blue Eyes

A few months back we had the pleasure of gently placing a very brave mother to be into the gorge. Although it took Sara a second attempt after a run in with a friendly eel, with a little convincing from Dwayne and Ben, and some use of some very advanced swimming techniques, Sara was happily floating for the shot! It all came about because during the preconsulation I discovered that she loved water and the Gorge, so why not mix them together!

Fast forward, and Sara’s bump became a cute little Cameron. Cameron enjoyed playing on the bed, and so did the rest of the family!

I couldn’t resist taking this shot, Ben beats his dad at chess on a fairly regular basis!
