Mark Watson in Edinburgh

Comedian Mark Watson’s 2008 Edinburgh poster. This was shot while waiting for another comedian to turn up for his shoot. I forget who the other comedian is but i do remember they forgot about the shoot. So Mark Watson walked by and had a chat, we had talked about doing a shoot at some stage and decided that right now would be as good a time as any.

We walked out of the hotel lobby and just next door was a car park entrance that went to below street level. I stayed up a level and shot down. It was nicely overcast and gave perfect conditions with no squinting and no harsh shadows.

This was my favourite shoot from the shoot and am glad that it’s being used all over Edinburgh at the moment. If you are over there, go and check his show out, but book in advance, he’s a big seller.

Sunday

We went for a drive on Sunday, first off to the River’s Edge in Longford where i’m involved in a boutique bridal expo in a couple of weekends. It’s grat spot to sit down on the couch in front of the fire and read some magazines while enjoying a coffee.

Next we went off to Anvers where I gave a small presentation to the Tasmanian Florist’s Association. It was fascinating to have lunch with a bunch of florists (yes, a group of florist are called a bunch). There was much talk about flowers and Vikashni and I learned a bit about some florist gripes with flowers at weddings. I will elaborate more in the next few weeks when I will have a guest post from a florist.

Then it was off to see The Dark Knight, which was pretty good, we arrived late so had to sit too close to the screen which really annoying.

And on the way home I took some photos of empty pallets on the side of the road.

So that was Sunday.

We do have a dog too

Kaba was feeling overwhelmed by the amount of attention Kooshan gets on the blog and insisted I take his photos. He is a good dog and does not get into too much trouble. Plus he is dam cute, fun to play with and, unlike Kooshan,  has never got up on the sink to search for food.

That dam cat…

I like cats. I think they are cute and quite good leg warmers in winter.

Kooshan is not a cat. He is pure trouble.

Example 1

We had pancakes and left the bowl on the sink with some water in it. A few minutes later Kooshan comes in with half his face wet from cleaning the bowl.

Example 2 - 5 minutes later

I made a coffee. I put the milk jug on the bench. I sat down to enjoy some blog reading. I hear a loud band in the kitchen. Kooshan had his head stuck in the milk jug, unfortunately he managed to free himself before I got the camera. Here is the evidence on his face. Take a closer look to the right side of his face, now covered in milk.

Kooshan is now in the laundry. That is the place where he goes when he has been naughty. He spends a lot of time there. Once I found him in the cutlery drawer, it was only open an inch but he managed to get in. Dam cat. I had to clean all the cutlery. Then there was the time he broke the front window of the house, distracted me so I scrapped the side of the car, escaped out the fly screens and investigated the neighbours rubbish, amongst many many many other things.

We have another cat, he is quite nice. He spends very little time in the laundry.

Martin Martini in Sauce

It is always fun to pick up a magazine and flip through and see if you can spot one of your photos. And this morning I found a full pager in Sauce, Tasmania’s free street press

There is even a story on how he came up with the idea for the props in this photo, go see if you can find a copy or click here to read it.

Lucy

Some baby are destined to be models, paying up to the camera, looking cute and even making cute noises. Lucky is one of those babies! Any one know a casting agent for Huggies?

When Zoe came in for her pre shoot chat I realised that her husband Simon was a few years above me at school and he was a prefect! Probably told me to pull up my socks a few times.

The poodle Poppy was great to, very photogenic!

Big blue eyes too

and Lucy loves to play with glases.. she nearly got a hold of mine.

And how could I not take a photo of Poppy, she had to spend most of the shoot outside.

Matt and Molly - a preview

More next week

Snow! And the end…

On Monday I had a little drive with some other photographers down to Oatlands for my final meeting as a council member of the Tasmanian Division of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers. I’ve been on the council for about 7 years, in various roles including president. It has been a great experience to get to know quite a few photogaphers who have some and gone over the years. I’m still a member of the AIPP and will always be, just stepping back from the council.
And to add to it all, we got snowed on! The meeting was closed early so the Hobaret people could get going before the road was closed.

The council is in good hands, lots of things on the go and new blood means new directions and ideas. I’m excited to watch what happens, i’m sure it’s going to be good!  New faces on the council include Bronwyn Sellers and Belinda Fettke, who join the remaining members Pam Verway, Janie Boyd, Jan Perkins, Alan Waugh and Bruce Elliott.

I’m still doing a couple of things, one of which is helping local legend Owen Hughes put together a presentation of his work for an upcoming public AIPP meeting in Launceston I’ll let you know when it is on.

The Amazing Flying Baby Of Lower Snug

This is just a preview shot from a shoot last weekend… more to follow… it will answer all the questions like, How can he fly? How high is he? And the most important question of them all… Can he land?
