Mark Watson in Edinburgh

Comedian Mark Watson’s 2008 Edinburgh poster. This was shot while waiting for another comedian to turn up for his shoot. I forget who the other comedian is but i do remember they forgot about the shoot. So Mark Watson walked by and had a chat, we had talked about doing a shoot at some stage and decided that right now would be as good a time as any.

We walked out of the hotel lobby and just next door was a car park entrance that went to below street level. I stayed up a level and shot down. It was nicely overcast and gave perfect conditions with no squinting and no harsh shadows.

This was my favourite shoot from the shoot and am glad that it’s being used all over Edinburgh at the moment. If you are over there, go and check his show out, but book in advance, he’s a big seller.

2007 + 250 POW

I took a few photos in 2007, in fact, I took a few thousand.I always have loved showing off my work and am very proud of the way my images have developed in the last 12 months. So it’s time to show you all my favourite shots in an audio visual presentation. This is only on for one afternoon only, and not an exhibition that is hanging on the walls, so this is your only chance to see it.

Some of the highlights will include documentary work on the East Coast bushfires and backstage at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, Holga images, urban and natural landscapes plus heaps of kids, families, pregnant bellies, animals and shoes.

In addition there will be a presentation of some of my favourite portraits of the week taken over the last 5 years. The POW started as a way of practicing and pushing myself by taking a different portrait each week. Some of these portraits are commissioned; others are self commissioned and feature comedians, musicians, brides, animals, fictional characters, photographers and everyday people I have bumped into.

The presentations will take about 30 minutes.

“KNOWN”
Fundraiser For The Daylesford Foto Biennale.
As photography experiences an unprecedented boom the world over and people embrace it as the art form of the masses, the Daylesford Foto Biennale (DFB07) has positioned itself as one of Australia’s premier photographic festivals.
However, running a festival is no easy matter and the difficulties of obtaining government and corporate sponsorships is as difficult as ever.
So, in a fundraiser to support the DFB07, some of Australia’s finest portrait photographers have donated images of famous people to be auctioned this Saturday 4th August at 2
pm.
“Known”, showcases, not only celebrity, but notoriety, fame, political greatness, sporting prowess and genius. From Winston Churchill to Rove McManus, to music legends, BB King, The Police and Mick Jagger. Also featured will be a classic image by John Casamento, of Rock and Roller, Chubby Checker doing “The Twist” at Festival Hall in 1962.

Photographer and Gallery owner, David Johns will be hosting the fundraising event for the Biennale at David ohns Gallery, 15A Railway Place, Fairfield, this Saturday 4th August at 2 pm. Entry is from Gillies St. (Mel 30 K11).
Refreshments will be available.
Come along, meet some of the participating photographers and make a bid on some classic images, that will look great on your wall for years to come.

Bidding begins at 2.30 pm. You can view images online at
