Today Rob and Shannyn are getting married, so i’m off to get some great images around the city with them before their ceremony out at Elmslie.
A couple of weeks ago I had the fourtune to meet up with them out at Shannyn’s grandmothers home in Liffey to do an engagement shoot with a few nan/granddaughter shots thrown in too.

Mathew asked Katie to marry him on the suspension bridge in the Cataract Gorge in Launceston. So it was the perfect spot to do their engagement portrait session. Oh, she said yes to the getting married question!

A shoot that I got lost in the blog back end, but worth the wait  I thnk. These guys got married last weekend! Congratulations, I’m sure it was a fantastic day for you both!

Lauren and Dain’s wedding is coming up next year, so some engagement shots were taken with some nice autum light and colour. I can’t wait for the big day to come around.

It’s getting cold down here in Tasmania. It kind of just hit last week. Now it’s officially cold. Not too long ago it wasn’t cold. It was at that time I caught up with Alice and Daniel over at Binalong Bay to do an engagement shoot with the dogs. These guys live in one of the best places in the world, just off the beach on the now world famous Bay of Fires. I’d be happy to live there! I’m really really really looking forward to shooting these guys when they get hitched later this year, going to be heaps of fun and I reckon they are going to look pretty awesome!

Ok, so i made up this blog post a couple of months ago and I thought I posted it and only just realised it didn’t make it up. So here they are, late but still fun. Some shots from Jason and Natalie’s engagement portrait session. Jason and Natalie are the ones that don’t have fur on their faces.

Saturday was a long day, no wedding so it wa a full day of shoots in Hobart. And all over the place too. We started with Kim and Eliza down at Clifton. They bought along Dukkah and it was his first time at the beach. He loved it, all the other dogs to play with and the sand to dig.

Then off to Barry and Allana’s for their engagement shoot about their flat. I had to hold myself back, too many good shots to be had there. I have to save something for the wedding!

Then off to catch up with Dain and Lauren in Fitzroy Gardens… and someones driveway. This shot is a bit serious, but there are heaps more mucking about ones too. Dain made fun of me before i got a chance to make fun of him… just wait till the wedding Dain…

Then to finish off the day, a sunset shoot with Mark and Jacqui down on the waterfront. I love exploring the same place over and over and finding new ways to shoot it.

So that was my daylight shooting in Hobart. 4 really great shoots, i can’t wait to show and post more from these sessions, it’s going to be hard narrowing down everything!

How’s that for somthing a bit different? I got a bit dirty taking these shots… must remember that if the ground is wet and muddy i shouldn’t lay down on it.

These guys got the most votes and won our Valentines Day Competition.

So this shoot may have almost been too much fun and the cool thing is that there is a wedding in the future with these too which i’m sure will push the fun into overdrive! Nick and Rhea came all the way from their little home in Japan for the shoot (they may have come to see family for Christmas and have an engagement party too, but i’m sure the engagment photography session was the main reason )

The plan, lets meet and Jackman and Ross. It was closed. So we just wandered the steets of Battery Point and took some awesome shots, had lots of laughs and generally had a very fun time.

Chris and Kate came home for a couple of weeks of holiday, they also came back for their engagement party. We managed to find some time to get out and take these shots. This was a fun and playful shoot, just wandering about finding some nice urban spots to photograph in.

I’m a bit behind in blog posting so i’m not going to write a heap for the next few posts, i just want to get the images up. So to start here is a few shots from Michael and Vivien’s engagement portrait session. They came all the way from Melbourne for the shoot and will be doing it again soon with their family and friends for their wedding.

I met Lou a little while ago, in Mr Roberts’ grade 7.2 classroom the log cabin in at high school. That was a while ago, now she is about to tie the knot with Hugh. But before all that it was time for a quick engagement portrait session. Engagement portraits gives couple opportunities to have photos together that probably won’t happen on the wedding day and like all portraits we shoot, we try to put some extra meaning into the sessions. Lou and Hugh just bought this fantastic house, when we did the session there were still a heap of boxes laying around waiting to be opened. You could feel the excitement in these guys (after the camera nerves disappeared!), new house and about to get married.  This is going to be a fun country wedding!

Andrew is the little brother of one of my good friends. It was great to get asked to shoot his upcoming wedding to Trish, who I seems to have been hanging Andrew for a while. We were all in Hobart for Andrews brothers surprise party, so decided to head out and get some photos before the festivities. Again, there was this blue stuff in the sky, it’s starting to happen more often so I decided to use it, but kept the water in some shots to remind us of all the rain!

Kangaroo Bluff is a great place for firing a canon. It’s not a bad place for an engagement portrait session either. That’s where Craig and Nyree come in. They are tying the knot next year and live not too far from this historic site, so it proved a great backdrop for their engagement session.

These guys were alot of fun to photograph, really playful, and so was Sprocket the award winning high jumping dog. I also met another main player in Craig’s life during the shoot, his car. No photo of the car as yet, saving those for the wedding post next year. It will be worth the wait, it’s a pretty cool car.

Isobel was the year below me at school, and I only really got to now her once school had finished and she started to mix with some of my other friends. Now she is engaged to a nice Scotsman and we are really looking forward to doing their wedding photography in January.

Our shoot location is down a backstreet in New Town. I managed to get a little lost looking for the café we were meeting in and luckily found this great little spot. It goes to show that getting lost does pay off.
We had a bit of a good time taking the photos, jumping on walls, wondering if we were tress passing and generally taking some good photos of good people. This wedding is going to be great, really looking forward to meeting the Scottish contingent because who doesn’t like a Scotsman (apart from the English, yes I saw Braveheart)

And Jasper came along too, he has the fur on his feet. Matt has fur on his feet too but hides it with shoes. OK, i’m not sure if Matt has fur on his feet, but as he is my dad’s godson, i can pick on him if i want, i think that’s in the rules?

Another preview from last Saturday’s engagment portrait sessions down in Hobart. This one was show with my rarely used lensbaby.

This couple are so much fun. Big laughs, big smiles and preserved food stuffs in jars. What more could you want???

Don’t you just love big puddles of muddy water? Especially when you are kneeling in them to get a shot!

After a couple of postponements (sickness and weather, can’t wait for winter to go away with all it’s germy badness) we finally managed to get Em and Moosa’s engagement shoot done. Of course, this engagement shoot had the added bonus of the very adorable Tilly in attendance to add another layer of cuteness.

Trying to stop taking photos of Tilly was hard but we did managed to get a few shots of just the soon to be weds.

Em is a florist / interior designer and has done flowers for a few wedding and I’m really excited to be shooting the wedding later in the year. It’s also exciting as I’ll be tag teaming the wedding with the talented Belinda Fettke, we will both be shooting the wedding. Going to be a really fantastic day, full of beautiful vibes and beautiful people!

I love it when clients introduce me to a new location that is only slightly tresspassy!

I have said it before, and i’ll say it again. Winter is a fantastic time for having some photos taken. It was Sam and Pip’s turn to do their engagement portrait session. We started out at their place as there was someone special to photography. Elsie is Pip’s old cat who has a lot of attitude in looks, but is really just a sweet little cat.

You can see she loves her scratches. Once we has said goodbye to Elsie we headed down to Duck Reach, an old power station hided in the suburbs of Launceston. Usually when I photograph here it’s straight to the rocks, but as the light was amazing we stayed on the bridge and around the station itself.

Sam and Pip were so easy to photography, there was so much laughter and you can really tell how much on love they are. I am really looking forward to their wedding in Avoca later in the year.

We met up with Nichola and Drew down at the old Coats and Patons building to shoot their engagement photos. It’s amazing all the different locations you can find by only walking a couple of hundred meters.

These guys are planning their wedding for down the east coast. If it is half as fun as what this shoot was, we are going to have a brilliant time!

I’m really looking forward to catching up with Chris and Clare again. I’ve known Clare since grade 7 and only met Chris when we met up for this session. Not only are they getting married next year in Queensland and taking us along for the ride, but they are also going to have a baby later this year.

 These guys were a heap of fun to shoot and I’m really looking forward to meeting the little one and also the wedding. Thanks again for being a fun shoot!

From an  enagement session last week, more soon!

Ben and Irene are getting married later in the year, and so it was engagement shoot time. Yet again we explored areas close to the studio and found even more locations, I wonder when I will run out?

Ben and Irene are full on into their wedding planning so it was great to get the updates on whats has been going on. Plus we had some fun and took some great photos.

I was thrilled when Megan gave me a call a few months ago to say she was getting married. Megan is Rob’s sister, and I shot Rob and Veronica’s wedding a couple of years ago. So Megan is getting married to Charlie next month, we took these shots just before Christmas last year and I have only now managed to get them posted. I really enjoyed this shoot too, it was fun getting a tour of Charlie’s families farm, the wedding will be on Megan’s family farm, so a very farm orientated couple.

Jason and Catherine came up to Launceston for their engagement shoot, they live in Hobart, but met in Launceston, so there was a connection (sorry about all the inappropriate ,’s in the last sentence!). It was not the best day for photos, the temperature was nudging 40 degrees, which in Launceston means that everything melts, including happily engaged couples and photographers. We got some great shots and discovered this apple tree really close to the office. Once I think I know everything about the area, somthing really surprises me.

As i’m up in Brisbane, supposedly finishing my talk that i’m giving in a couple of hours I thought i’d procrastinate a little and post this very fun shoot.  We are so lucky  to be shooting Rhys and Jessica’s wedding in a couple of months, but before all that happens we did the engagement shoot. And as you can see, we had a blast!A bike the Rhys made, playing on the jetty, splashing in the water, cutting our feet on the oysters and patching ourselves up with pirate band aids. How much more fun can you have?

That’s my foot… it has all healed up nicely now, thanks for asking!

No we are not at the beach, we are moving the production office. It was a hard slog but we managed to move everything into the new office way over the other side of the hallway. What does this mean???

well, all the production, computers and stuff are now in a different location but the viewing room /gallery stays exactly where it is. It will be expanded soon and have some touch ups but for the time being it is all just business as usual.

We will send some pictures of the new office soon.

We had so much fun on this shoot that we splashed about and I cut* my foot in in four places! More soon, this one is a bit fun.

*and by cut, I mean 3 scratches and one decent cut that was still bleeding the next morning! Go coagulation!

Some photos froma while ago, Hayley and Aaron’s engagemnt shoot at the Cradle Mountain Chateau. I’m really looking forward to their wedding up in Stanley in a few months.

I’m really looking forward to Micheal and Camille’s wedding, it’s a pity it’s still a year away, but you have to have something to look forward to!

These guys are another couple coming to tas to do the getting married thing, and they are doig it well with the reception down at Pepermint Bay. The boat trip down there will be great for all their guests.

The shoot also turned into a shopping tour of Launceston, we hit a few really cool shops and ate some chocolate! I’m now thinking that I will introduce shopping/shooting tours of town!

Wayne liked me because I have a Holga. I liked Wayne because he had a Holga and many other little lomo cameras. So Heidi had to like me because Wayne liked me and I liked Heidi. So, there you have it! They are getting married next year and i’m looking forward to it, these guys like different, which opens up a whole bag of ideas for me!

These guys spend a little bit of time at Hudsons, so that is where the session started… right from the beginning my ideas were a little bit out of centre but with these guys it was no problem.

We did settle down into some more regular shots, but look out for the wedding. I’m working on somthing very very special and also a bit different to compliment the regular wedding shots that I always take.

When Andrew and Claire’s wedding comes around next year, Andrew will officially be the Groom i’ve known the longest. I can actully remember Andrew being a cheeky little boy in nappies running around their house. Not too much is changed, except he is not requiring nappies anymore and he now gets told off by his soon to be wife not his mum!

So this is an engagement shoot in preperation for thebig day next year. It was fantastic to meet Claire and see these guys have a bit of fun together, mostly at each other’s expense. We had a great time taking these shots and I know we are going to get some really amazing images at the wedding.

The next one was Claire’s favoutire… not sure why it wasn’t Andrew’s!

Di and Sam recieved a gift shoot from a friend, thank’s Melita for introducing me to this fantastic couple! As it turned out these guys got engaged in Paris while they were on a holiday. Congratulations!

All these shots are taken about the Battery Point area, which is right near Salamanca and Sam’s new resturaunt Plum. More on that in an upcomming blog post.

It may not look like it but it was also raining a little and quite windy, which letus play with some umbrellas, one of which died immidiatly and the other just survived. I really had a great time shooting these guys, they both have such warn personalities and I can not wait to get down and check out Plum (in Salamanca Square) properly.

This post is a little overdue, it was shot a couple of months ago. Georgina and Michael are getting married in a few weeks and were down to do some final arrangements. Of cousr, part of those arrangements were to meet their photographer and have an engagement portrait shoot.

After our initial meeting it was shoot time and we headed off far and wide to find locations, which were all within 50 meters of the office.

This is going to be a fun wedding, and yes Georgina, you look good in photos and there is no need to be scared. I’m really looking forward to shooting the big day in a few weeks, I may even refresh my knowledge by watching The Sound of Music!

Cam and Rosemary are getting a couple of big life events out of the way in a short amount of time. They are expecting their baby any day now and have planned the naming day to coincide with their wedding. So thats going to be a big day and i’m really looking forward to it!So first up it was the pregnancy / engagement shoot. We decided on the seaport area as it is where Cam proposed. So we went on a little walk, which apparently is quite a big walk when you are expecting.

And the final shot that says it all, pregnant and engaged! I can’t wait to meet the little one and I know it won’t be long till I do. Thanks again for the really fun shoot and see you again soon.

These guys are fun. And I mean really fun. We had the best time just wandering about taking some shots. Matt and Molly are getting married next February and I can’t wait for the wedding. It is lucky that I do engagement shoots so we all get a feel for how things will be on the wedding day.

I’m sure the first thing I noticed with these guys is that there is a little height difference, which just added to the fun. I get to team up with Molly because i’m short too! Then again, I did throw in a few short lines too… gotta roll with the punches.

Late afternoon in the city is a fantastic place to shoot, basically everywhere is a location. And over the hour we had about five different locations.

I love the shot above, the expression is achieved by Matt watching the photographer balancing with one foot on a little light while trying to keep still and take a photo.

Town hall proved to be another fantastic location, where we played with the height difference again,

And this weird pipe thing that is in the carpark, I have never noticed it before. Luckily Molly was just the right size to jump in and take this stunning shot.

So with the love these guys have, size definitely doesn’t matter. They are a heap of fun and I am really looking forward to the big day. I know it’s going to be a really special day and i’ll be honored to be there to play and take some more amazing photos of these two.

More next week

I was excited the moment I first talked Alli about her wedding. It sounded like heaps of fun and will be amazing on the East Coast of Tasmania in spring. Ben was off working on an oil rig at the time, but i got a really good scene of who these guys were from that first phone call. Of course, Alli and I had no idea that Ben’s mum and I are friends and his mum has been overly supportive of my career from day one. So Alli and Ben booked and Ben’s mum Liz was stoked, so much she called me late at night with the news “My son is getting married and his fiance has booked a photographer and didn’t talk to me first, but the good news is they picked you!”

Anyway, enough of that, onto the fantastic engagement shoot. I wanted somewhere where we could explore and get some really great shots. Alli and Ben are outdoors kinda people and so I decided that one of my favourite and under used locations would be just right.

The shoot was great, the engagement shoots are basically a way for the could to get to know the strange man who will be taking photos at their wedding. I learned a little about lichen, about what these guys do, got reminded about how they got together and that time when Ben proposed.

These guys just look great together, and obviously really enjoy teasing each other. Ben is quite partial to poking Alli with a stick too!

I really can’t wait for their wedding, their personalities mixed with some amazing east coast scenery will be fantastic!

This is a longgg over due blog post. I met up with Ryan and Liona way back in April to do some engagement photos. I’ll be shooting their wedding in mid January up at Rosevears, and I reckon it’s going be be heaps of fun!

All the shots were taken with in about 50 meters from the Photobat office, I really love that there are so many locations just around the corner!

I had a fantastic shoot yesterday. Ben and Alli’s wedding is coming up in a few months so it was time for the engagement portrait. Can’t wait to post them!

Kala and Michael are getting married in a couple of months, so it was time to do some engagment photos. We found this fantastic corrogated iron fence just around the corner from the cafe and it provided the perfect light and background.

I’m really looking forward to the wedding, it’s going to be fantastic.. these guys are so in love that the day is going to be pure bliss!

I took a few photos in 2007, in fact, I took a few thousand.I always have loved showing off my work and am very proud of the way my images have developed in the last 12 months. So it’s time to show you all my favourite shots in an audio visual presentation. This is only on for one afternoon only, and not an exhibition that is hanging on the walls, so this is your only chance to see it.

Some of the highlights will include documentary work on the East Coast bushfires and backstage at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, Holga images, urban and natural landscapes plus heaps of kids,families, pregnant bellies, animals and shoes.

In addition there will be a presentation of some of my favourite portraits of the week taken over the last 5 years. The POW started as a way of practicing and pushing myself by taking a different portrait each week. Some of these portraits are commissioned; others are self commissioned and feature comedians, musicians, brides, animals, fictional characters, photographers and everyday people I have bumped into.

The presentations will take about 30 minutes.

The session with Scott and Vicki was supposed to be a nice couple shoot, but that all changed when Scott popped the question the week before turning into an engagement portrait!

We got some fantastic playful shots down behind Richies Mill, i especially love the piggy back shot above.

These guys are so in love and it just shows in the photos and was such a pleasure to be able to take these shots at this special time in their lives!

Christine is the voice at the end of the phone who i’ve been talking to about her wedding to Michael. we had never met due to Michael and her being based in Melbourne but are coming to Launceston to get married because its Christine’s home town. They were down a couple of weeks ago to meet up, talk about the wedding and take some shots. All the shots were taken while wandereing around the block looking for great backgrounds. we were all on the same wavelength which is going to make the wedding day alot of fun.
