Grass - Old Midlands Hwy

I’ll be driving past this grass in the morning… Off to Melbourne to do some Comedy Festival things. Back in the evening, so some photos will arrive here at some stage.

Some new Holga

I had some new Holga shots processed, I’m still enjoying playing with the little plastic camera. I picked up some tungsten balanced slide film and got it cross processed, give these strange colouring… no photoshop!

Using this toy camera has made me really have to think about many different aspects of the art of photogaphy, thinking about different light, compositions, using shadows, understanding how a film is going to work in certain light conditions and most importantly, how dam expensive it gets to buy and process film, let alone get it scanned.

For those photo types out there, these are shot with expired Fuji 64T slide film, cross processed standard C41 way. The blue cast comes from the film being balanced for tungsten light and the images shot in day light and the contrast is increased because of the cross processing.

I’ll be adding more photos into the new Holga Gallery on Photobat.net soon, but for the time being head over to my flickr site for more images.

Easter Play Time

I managed to take a couple of days off over Easter! One of those days off did involve half the day sitting in the office tinkering with potential award entry images. It washard to force ourselves to get out of bed early enough to get some nice landscapes up the Tamar. But we did it, some of mine are below and Vikashni’s will appear on her flickr sometime http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikashni/ . It was fun getting back to shooting some landscapey type stuff, including some long exposure stuff and some more experimental things. I also played with some light using my lovely Vikashni as my model, back light and flare were what I was after, and after the sun went down I managed to get some nice softer images.

This is the same area where I did my first shoot with Vikashni a couple of years ago now, that was before we were together! It’s fun to go to a place we had shot in before and come up with something completely different.

And yes, we had just watched The Virgin Suicides

The Gorge

Jelly fish near Deviot

Some poles at Gravelly Beach

Some shots from Greens Beach

Sea Port in Launceston

The Gorge Pool.

More to come…

Off Camera Flash in the Holyman

I got a little inspired today and decided to play with off camera flash, something I haven’t done much of since uni… so i ran around the building and found people to shoot.

Quinny on the Stairs

Nate in the Hall

Dave on the roof.

All shot with one flash held off to the side, kinda fun playing. I might shoot more people next week…

2007 + 250 POW

I took a few photos in 2007, in fact, I took a few thousand.I always have loved showing off my work and am very proud of the way my images have developed in the last 12 months. So it’s time to show you all my favourite shots in an audio visual presentation. This is only on for one afternoon only, and not an exhibition that is hanging on the walls, so this is your only chance to see it.

Some of the highlights will include documentary work on the East Coast bushfires and backstage at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, Holga images, urban and natural landscapes plus heaps of kids, families, pregnant bellies, animals and shoes.

In addition there will be a presentation of some of my favourite portraits of the week taken over the last 5 years. The POW started as a way of practicing and pushing myself by taking a different portrait each week. Some of these portraits are commissioned; others are self commissioned and feature comedians, musicians, brides, animals, fictional characters, photographers and everyday people I have bumped into.

The presentations will take about 30 minutes.

Moody Shot

Just playing around with Vikashni and the Kaba Dog. Just experimenting with light and high ISO’s.

This was lit with the overhead fluro , not the best of light sources, and the background is a lamp shined at the curtain diffused through a laundry basket. Shot at 800 Iso i think at f2.8.
