Photobat Shop - It’s ALIVE

I’m so excited to tell you all that the brand new Photobat shop is up and running! This has been in the works for a few months now and promises to be one of the best additions to the photobat wedding experiance. From now on, all Photobat weddings will be uploaded to shop.photobat.net so you can send your family and friends to see and purchase your wedding photos.

And if that wasn’t cool enough, you can now make one off payments for things like portrait sessions and wedding booking fees.
Head over to shop.photobat.net and view the sample gallery to see just jow cool it all is!

Last Week… Stelth Melbourne

I spent all of last week in Melbourne, it was a quiet trip with the purpose of learning. I took part in a 5 day seminar with  Jerry Ghionis. Who is Gerry I hear you ask? Well let me tell you. Jerry is listed by American Photo as one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world, listed as an Icon of Imaging by Microsoft and winner of a bucket load of awards from all over the world. There were participants from all over Australia and even as far away as New Zealand and Malaysia.

It was fascinating to see learn from a photographer who has been influencing my work for the last 12 months.

So, 5 days is a long time and there was so much information, ideas, tips and inspiration given that i’m still buzzing with everything that happened. There are many parts of what I do in photography and business that i’m working on improving to take my standards even higher. There are not too many things that will change over night, it will be more of a gradual process.

So stay tuned for more changes, more exciting products, new services and better images. I’m excited and a bit pumped!

And sorry to everyone to called and emailed while I was away, the seminar was all consuming of both brain and time. I’ll be getting back to you very very soon.

Pulp Mill Protest

Protest time in Launceston again.

And the lone man standing his ground for the mill

7LA

I was in at 7LA last earlier this week to judge their Kutest Kidz competition.

SOme photos from that visit… I wonder if anyone heard me? The winner and my pick will be featured on this blog in the coming months. Thanks again to everyone who supported this charity, i’m sure a heap fo money was raised for the Childrens Ward at the LGH

That flying baby - REVEALED

A few week ago you may remember there was a flying baby, need a memory jog? click here.

It is now time to answer all the questions! Otto can’t really fly, but does love to be thrown up in the air, and he gets a lot of air because his dad is a bit of a giant (then again, to me most people are giants). So far Greg hasn’t dropped Otto, which is a good thing because he is the coolest baby!

Otto is a real little character, so many expressions! This little guy is great, heaps of fun and i’m sure will be a terror when he starts to walk and then run about.

He gets on really well with Zali the dog too.

See what I mean about the expressions? He’s an angel isn’t he!

I can’t wait to see how much trouble he is going to get into, thanks again Greg and Emma for letting me shoot your first born, and well done on him, I can’t rave about him more!

Justin Herald

I had no idea who Justin Herald was until a couple of weeks ago, I was even standing next to him ordering a drink, no idea. About an hour after the bar I discovered he was speaking at the seminar V and I were attending, and that he is a bit of a business and motivational machine. From starting with his Attitude brand of clothing for $50 he borrowed from his brother, he turned it into a multi million dollar empire. And now he has a heap of books and uses his money to, amongst other things, build orphanages is Africa.

If you get a chance to see Justin speak, go see him. He is a fantastic presenter with a delivery style reminiscen of some of my favourite comedians, not the ones that go for the quick one liners, but the ones who tell a great story that make you think.

Yes, a shoe shot. Apparently this shot represents a third of Justin’s shoe wardrobe, the other two thirds being comprised of a pair of thongs and something a little more dressy.

Slight Problem

The main Photobat production computer decided that it had enough of this world. Thanks to the god of Backing Up, I have only really lost some settings and a few of days that were needed to get the new box up and running. Not to mention the time that I missed out actually doing work. Big thanks to Bill at Carbil for getting me up and running again in such a quick time.

Blog posting will start again now, there are a few to post and some really cool shots that I’m really proud of.

The above shot is of a couple of rubbish bins who were holidaying on Santorini while we were there. They loved the view.

Owen - see him talk

Owen Hughes is Tasmaina’s first Master of Photography way back in the 80’s. There are a heap around now, but Owen was the first.I guess most people in Launceston will know who Owen is, he would be the longest operating photographer in the area and would probably have shot over 1000 weddings and even more portraits, including some of my family when we were younger.

I find it fasinating to talk to people who have been around a while, Owen is no exception. I am helping him put together a presentation he is giving on the 24th of August in Launceston and have already seen and heard some of the stories that he will be telling. I had no idea of how Owen got started, or the kinds of jobs he did back in the 70’s and 80’s. Bit of an eye opener!

So, you should get yourself to Launceston on the 24th and hear a legend of Tasmanian photography tell his story. It’s being run by the AIPP and you can read more about it here and purchase tickets here.  This seminar will be worth seeing, and i mean REALLY WORTH GOING TO SEE.

More next week on the other guy who is speaking… he was one of the first Grand Masters of Photography.
