Hobart Detail

Last weekend I had the pleasure of having a fun time shooting Michael and Georgie’s wedding in Launceston. It’s been a while since I have had a wedding through the Gorge, so I was really excited to be shooting it. It all started with bbq breakfast at Michael’s parents place where I managed to get this cool reflection in the salt and pepper shakers.

Then off to Stillwater to find Georgie and her friends having a very nice looking breakfast. I can’t wait to get back down there for breakfast soon. Of course, the interesting Hen’s night conversations were as good as the food, but a bit more on the risque side!

When we arrived back at Michael’s parents place, it was time to shoot and we got these really great shots in the living room and out on the street in front of the house.

Back in the car and zoomed over to Georgie’s parents place where her and the girls were putting all the final touches on then having some fun shots about the place. These girls cracked me up, there was one set shot they requested, and it involved hiking boots, ugg boots and teva sandals.

Off to the Fairy Dell in the Cataract Gorge for the ceremony.

A good celebrant is like a Boy Scout, always prepared. Barb Youd sets the standard by supplying Aeroguard for the protection of the bride from winged bitey insects.

I loved these kids, just hanging out watching the events and most importantly didn’t disturb the ceremony, unlike those noisy peacocks.

We followed up the ceremony with a bit of horse play on the play equipment

Michael and Georgie spent a heap of time hanging out at the Gorge before they moved off to Bendigo, so these locations have extra special meanings.

Huge thanks again for letting me shoot the day, i’m really wrapped in how the shots came out and when ever you stop sunning yourselves in Thailand I’ll get them to you!

Last weekend was a huge day on the east coast for Alli and Ben’s wedding. The plan was to head out with the guys surfing in the morning but there was no swell so we ended up in a cafe in Bicheno instead.

Then it was down to Coles Bay to catch up with the girls for some getting ready shots.

As usual, there was a little bit of re decorating so we didn’t get unwanted things in the background, this time we had a well dressed removalist to help.

Back up the road in Bicheno all was set for the wedding, it started a little later than planned due to a double booking at the blow hole. It was a graet ceremony with all the guests on different rocks over looking all the action.

Then, back int he car and down to Coles Bay for a few more shots. It was important to get some water in the shots as the ocean is Ben’s second love and both Alli and Ben have spent large amounts of time in nature so these locatsion were perfect.

Don’t you love the guys “flower”

The girls helping Alli with some sand in her shoes.

The then an amazing sunset down on the jetty outside Freycinet Lodge where the reception was being held. The reception was really grat and the staff at the lodge did an amazing job with looking after everyone.

Ciongratulations again Alli and Ben and thank you for an amazing day, there are so many more photos I could have uploaded, but we will save them for when you get back all tanned from your honeymoon.
The Red Feather Inn has had a face lift. And it has turned out really really well!

Built in the 1800’s the Inn was one of Tasmania’s first coach inns and is now a high quality boutique hotel. The rooms are fantastic, they have a kind of modern / french provincial feel and are very stylish with their fittings and furnishings. The firs thoughts that went through my head when I had a little tour was wow. I knew the Inn in it’s previous incarnation as a restaurant and was amazed at it’s transformation. The rooms are so inviting and the baths look even more inviting. We were there early in the morning and the rooms were warm, a good thing for spring time in Tasmania! Every little detail has been individually picked and placed, I think half the enjoyment at staying here will be discovering all the little trinkets.

Out the back there is a large spacious garden which is going to be a very popular wedding and party spot. It’s fantastic and I can’t wait to shoot a special occasion out there.

The Inn is located in Hadspen just outside of Launceston on the way to Deloraine. Check out their website here.

More on Wednesday…

Another quick shoot before I left. I met Libby at my BNI breakfast and got talking which turned into this family portrait session. It was very timely because Libby’s eldest Alex managed to score herself a job in Melbourne while I was away.

So we took some shots around their home and then up at the Trevallyn Reserve which was just up the road.

Thanks again for the really enjoyable shoot, and congratulations again Alex on the new job, I hope it is being fantastic for you.

The posters are up! All over the place you should be seeing a selection of these images displaying the work of Tara Badcock and Monique Germon. It’s all part of Design Island which is on around Tasmania at the moment. The shots were taken in Hobart and also out near New Norfolk.

I’ve always been a big fan of Tara’s work, I didn’t know much about Monique’s work before; but i’m a fan of it now i’ve seen it.

The whole shoot was probably the most involved lightingI have undertaken in a long time, reflectors, off caera flash and even mixing it all with video light. Lots of fun

Big thanks to Zakk and Rainier who did a very good job of holding all the lighting equipment

Another Saturday another drive south for a wedding. This time we had the fantastic opportunity to photograph Kala and Michael. We had a brilliant time on the engagment shoot so i was really looking forward to the day, and it didn’t dissapoint. Early start with the boy and then a few shots of Michael in his music room… he’s quite talented (check out his website here or even his wikipedia entry here). So his music room was somewhere he really spends alot of time, i was instantly taken by his organised bookshelves!

Then off to find Kala and the girls, (one of whom you may recognise from here ). As usual, it was a contolled sense of chaos in the house full or people coming and going.

Did i mention that the house had heaps of good spots for photos?

And then we went outside

It looks like these girls have seen a ghost. I can’t tell you how much fun we had on the day, everyone was so much fun to be around and so unstressed.

The Hobart Town hall was the place for the big event and what a fabulous location it is. A new place for me and i hope to get there many time in the future.

How is that for a dip? It didn’t go to plan in the rehearsal but went off with out a hitch in the ceremony and the crows went wild!

As Michael’s life is music and opera I had to create some more dramatic shots… how could i not, Michael does serious so well.

Plus there was some play time with the rest of the bridal party.

Plus Idon’t think the Marine Board Building on the waterfront has looked so good in a photo.

And sorry Kala, Michael laughed when he saw this one and i love it, so my apologies!

There were too many great moments from this wedding, i haven’t laughed this much in a long time. We were truly honored to be there to record the day and I can’t wait to get the rest of the photos to you guys!
A couple of weeks ago i returned to my favourite alleyway and did a very fun shoot with the Michael and his kids.

Michael was a former photographer in Launceston and it is very gratifying and humbling to shoot another photographer’s family. It can be a little scary, knowing the person in front of the lens knows what you are doing, but it was just a really enjoyable shoot.

It was so much fun that it was hard to stop everyone laughing at the same time to get a shot done. Thanks again for the great shoot!
